‘Golden Bachelor’ with Mel and Peg about Cindy’s exit and their future

The second season of “The Golden Bachelor” ended with an unexpected twist for Mel Owens after he chose Peg Munson.
Instead of getting down on one knee and proposing, Owens gave Munson a ring, explaining that it “represents our commitment to love, to allow time to figure out together what our future holds.”
As the world watched their love story unfold for weeks, the couple spent a lot of time together cooking, catching up on shows, watching sports games and other ordinary experiences to deepen their bond.
“For the past three months, they put us in a house together, and we’re locked up,” Munson said Variety. “It was fun and nice to communicate and do those daily activities when you’re out and about as a normal couple.”
Despite ultimately choosing each other, Owens’ journey to finding his partner reached a major turning point near the end.
At the start of Wednesday’s finale, it was revealed that Cindy Culler, one of the final two contestants, decided to leave the show after realizing they weren’t on the same page about their relationship. Eager to get married, Culler expected to end with a proposal, while Owens’ priority was to “find a partner” during his journey through the show.
“My message was very clear from the beginning,” Owens explains. “I didn’t plan to get married off the island like she wanted. You have to have something like that, then fall in love and then come the marriage. There’s another person involved too, and she says, ‘Let’s put that person aside.’ Well, you can’t do that because that’s the show. That’s how it works out. That’s the journey. There was no miscommunication for me. I told her honestly what was going to happen. She got ejected, and that’s her right to do that, and that’s fine. It was ironic that she said she was in love, but she isn’t and walks away.”
Munson seemed alarmed by Culler’s abrupt departure, prompting her to express concerns about not knowing where Owens stood. After having some one-on-one time with him during “Fantasy Suites,” her worries simmered
“I had a lot of questions,” Munson says about going into “Fantasy Suites.” “I was able to spend that time with him and ask those deep questions. As we went through this journey, we were on the same page about starting and continuing this love story. Let’s grow friendship number one, and love is a byproduct of that.”
Now that their relationship is public, the couple says their main priority is to continue writing their love story, but on their own terms.
“We continue to get to know each other,” Owens says. “This is our official first day out. Even though we’ve probably been together for a few months on and off for the past few weeks, it’s an ongoing process. I love being around her. She’s funny, has a great personality, a loving mother, is very caring and treats me well. I’m having the time of my life.”
