George Clooney says Brad Pitt is teasing him over the casting of Thelma and Louise

Brad Pitt made a splash in 1991 Thelma & Louise — a role that almost went to George Clooney.
“So I was on TV. I was making good money, but then actors said, ‘Well, I’m a movie actor – I just happen to do TV,’” Clooney, 64, said The Times of London in a profile from Saturday, November 29. “I did the final test for a role in Thelma & Louise. And mother, Brad got it.”
In the 1991 film, a pair of best friends (played by Geena Davis ai.e Susan Sarandon) go on an adventure that ends with the police hunting them down. Pitt, 61, got his big break playing JD in the film.
‘I didn’t look Thelma & Louise for years because I was annoyed,” Clooney recalled The times of losing the role. “The role launched his career in film. He’d done sitcoms and nonsense before, so then this was the thing that could have launched me? F***!”
Clooney and Pitt have been longtime friends and costars, and often talk about the… Thelma & Louise throwing battle.
“Oh yeah, he gives me s***,” Clooney joked about Pitt. “But of course when I saw it I thought: it had to be that guy.”
Pitt’s JD has a big topless scene, which is how Clooney knew he wasn’t right for the role.
“I saw that in the theater and when Brad took off his shirt, people went crazy,” Clooney’s Jay Kelly costar Adam Sandler told jokingly The times. “But it should have been you, Clooney.”

“Once I was cast, there were only four finalists for that role,” Davis, now 69, said on the radio. Graham Norton show in 2022, detailing how Pitt was cast. ‘They said, ‘Would you like to read with them so we can see it [with] anyone?’ [They all] came in, they were all handsome, they all had brown hair and they were very talented. I didn’t care who it would be.”
According to Davis, Pitt was the last man to try out for the role.
“He is so charismatic and so incredibly talented that I blew his audition because I forgot to say my line,” she recalled. “I’m like, ‘Wow, he’s really talented.’ I didn’t know if they wanted my opinion or not, but I said, “Would you like to know my reaction?” They said, ‘Oh, please.’”
Davis then stated that she liked “the blonde.”
Losing part Thelma & Louise hasn’t hindered Clooney’s career at all, who has had an equally critically acclaimed run on the big screen.
“I’m constantly trying to figure out things about myself as I get older,” Clooney shared exclusively We weekly at the Jay Kelly premiered last month. “At this point in my career and life, if someone writes a really good script and a really good part, and there aren’t that many, you just jump in and try not to screw it up. I’m 64. I’m not really ready to look back and rest a little bit.” [my career]. I enjoy looking ahead and seeing what’s to come.”
