General Hospital’s Kelly Monaco returns as Sam after Death Scene
Kelly Monaco says goodbye to General Hospital and her character, Sam McCall, after more than two decades on the soap opera – but her recent death scene won’t be the last time viewers see her on the beloved soap opera, We weekly can confirm.
While Monaco’s character Sam McCall died on the Wednesday, Oct. 30, episode of the ABC series, the actress, 48, will make one final appearance — including some heartbreaking farewell moments likely in store — in an upcoming episode later this week.
On Tuesday’s episode, Sam successfully emerged from surgery and became engaged to Dante (Dominic Zamprogna). However, she later began to crash and doctors were ultimately unable to revive her.
We weekly confirmed in August that Monaco was about to leave General Hospital in the fall after playing the role of Sam McCall in more than 2,000 episodes since her 2003 debut.
Monaco initially remained tight-lipped about her departure, but first appeared to address it in a since-deleted Instagram comment on a Soap Hub post in September, in response to a user who claimed she was “monotonous , had no primary roles and [was] just boring” and refused to accept a pay cut, which Monaco had already disputed.
“Not a primary role… do your homework,” Monaco replied. “When Billy Miller was fired, Sam’s storyline ended. Stripping Sam of every characteristic she had. Something I spent decades building… Slowly dismantling her, into a character I didn’t recognize, let alone the audience. Call it whatever you want… retribution on it [sic] best. I will make an appropriate statement. The truth will set you free.”
In October, Monaco reflected on her final moments at the General Hospital set. “Last scene with the Davis girls. 😘🥲🙏🏻,” she captioned an Instagram photo with costars Kate Mansi, Nancy Lee Grahn And Kristen Vaganos. “I still don’t feel like it.”
Before Kelly’s position, her mother, Carmina Monacorevealed that the Daytime Emmy nominee filmed her final scenes on September 27, just days before her 21st anniversary on the show.
“I want to take this moment to reach out to Kelly’s incredible fans and express my deepest gratitude for the unwavering love, loyalty and support you have shown her throughout her time with us. General Hospital“, Carmina wrote via
Carmina acknowledged that the moment was “difficult” for Kelly, but she noted, “Knowing that she has had such an incredible, dedicated fan base has been empowering.” You have supported her at every turn, celebrated her achievements and provided comfort during the difficult times.
She concluded, “Your love and devotion have meant more than words can express, not only to Kelly, but to all of us who care about her so deeply. Thank you for being there, for believing in her and for reminding her of the impact she made. We will always be grateful that you supported her through it all.”
