The General Hospital alum died on December 14, 2025 at the age of 78, three days after surgery. Geary’s husband, Claudio Gamaconfirmed the news of his death.

Moving to Amsterdam
Following his example, Geary moved to Amsterdam General Hospital pension.
“One of the reasons I became an actor is because I didn’t feel at home in my own skin and I wasn’t really comfortable with the people I grew up with, and it became a refuge for me to live in my imagination,” he said in the same 2015 interview. “In Amsterdam I find the whole city a big playground for my imagination and I feel very comfortable there.”
That ‘General Hospital’ cameo
After his official departure from the show, Geary returned for a final cameo in 2017.
Tying the knot
Gama shared a photo from his and Geary’s wedding in February 2019, revealing that they had officially tied the knot.
“#amsterdam #mywedding #tonygeary,” he captioned the post, which showed Geary in a suit and pink tie.
Looking back on his life

Geary reflected on playing Luke during a 2023 interview with Soap Opera Digest – his final interview with the publication.
“I’m not on the show anymore after being on it for over thirty years, almost half my life, and I feel a sense of satisfaction because I did it, I showed up, I did my job, I won some trophies, for the most part I enjoyed the people I worked with and I feel like I got away on time,” he said at the time. “I look back on it and it’s amazing and it gave me the great life I have now, so I’m not going to complain.”
He also talked about how he feels fulfilled after his retirement.
“I live in the city [Amsterdam] that I’ve always wanted to live my whole life and I have someone who loves me and I now have a life that I didn’t have before,” Geary said. “No matter how many fan letters or Emmys or how many pages of dialogue I have to learn. I didn’t have what I have now. So everything happened at the right time, I think.”
Last acting appearance
TV Insider reported that Geary’s final acting role was filmed a day before he underwent surgery. He played a scene next to the former General Hospital costar Anders Hove.
