GenAI as a shopping assistant set to explode during Prime Day sales

A new report estimates that AI will be a larger than ever part of the online store process during Amazon’s Prime Day Sale, which started on Tuesday morning. The annual sale of Amazon, which this year extends over four days (8-11 July), is predicted to manage $ 23.8 billion in online expenditure for American e-commerce retailers, while other companies carry out their own competitive sale in addition to the popular store event.
Adobe, whose e-commerce division regularly releases estimates for online store events such as Black Friday and others, offers a display in online trade by following transactions online. The company’s analysis includes more than 1 trillion visits to American retail websites, including 100 million SKUs in 18 product categories.
This year Adobe predicts that Prime Day will be the equivalent of “Two Black Friday’s”. The $ 23.8 billion spent during the four -day period will be 28.4% on an annual basis and $ 9.6 billion more than the comparable period last year.
Mobile will be a large part of that comparison, good for more than half (52.5%) of sales, but this year generative AI will also play a role.
During the Prime Day event, Adobe estimates that traffic of generative AI sources will increase by 3200% on an annual basis. This is still a much smaller source than other channels, such as paid searches and e -mail, but Adobe believes that it will continue to grow as consumers see the value when using AI to shop.
The company noted that Genai-driven chatbots and browsers saw a first increase in use during the 2024 holiday season, when traffic from those sources rose 1,300% compared to the previous year from November 1 to December 31, 2024.
The company also mentioned a study among 5,000 American consumers, who indicated that people used Genai for research (55%of respondents), product recommendations (47%), finding deals (43%), getting gift ideas (35%), finding unique products (35%) and making store lists (33%).
Of those who used Genai, 92% said it strengthened their purchasing experience, and 87% said they would use AI for larger or more complex purchases.
AI providers have used this trend by integrating AI into shopping, such as Google has with Gemini-enhanced product search and, for example, has the addition of stores in Chatgpt.
Adobe’s prediction says that consumers will be focused on discounts this prime day, where clothing has the largest deals. Back-to-school needs will also stimulate sales this year.
