Gemini will now automatically summarize your long emails unless you opt out
The AI assistant of Google, Gemini, wins a more prominent place in your inbox with the launch of E -mail overview cards that appear at the top of your e -mails. The company announced Thursday that users no longer have to tap an option to summarize an e -mail with AI. Instead, the AI will now automatically summarize the content when needed, without the need for user interaction.
When Gemini was launched last year in the Gmail side panel, users could summarize one of the functions their long EmailTreads, together with other tools such as those to prepare E -Mail messages or see proposed answers, among other things.
Now Google puts the AI to work on your inbox, whether it is something you want to use.
The update is another example of how AI quickly infiltrates the software and services that people use most, although AI entrepreneurships are not always reliable. For example, when Apple AI compensation for app -push reports rolled out, the BBC found the function of repeated errors when summarizing news heads. Apple eventually paused the AI compilations for News apps.
Google’s own AI overviews function for searches has also repeatedly made mistakes, which sometimes offers poor quality and inaccurate information.
With the new e -mail overview cards, Gemini will list the most important points of a longer E -mail and keeps updating this synopsis as the answers arrive.
The function does not replace the option to click a button manually to summarize an e -mail, Google notes. That will still appear like a chip at the top of the e -mail and in the Gemini side panel of Gmail.
The function is initially only available for e -mails in English.
Depending on your region, the summary cards can be enabled Or switched off as standard. (Smart functions are eliminated for example in the EU, the UK, Switzerland and Japan, the help documentation of Google.) Others can choose Switch on or off the function From the settings of Gmail under ‘Smart functions’. Workplace managers can also choose to disable the personalization settings for users from the admin console.
