Gavin Newsom says he’s considering the 2028 presidential campaign

Gavin Newsom teases his presidential bid for the 2028 elections.
In an interview with CBS Sunday morningCalifornia’s governor said he would “be lying” if he said he wasn’t considering running for president after his term expires in 2027. However, he isn’t 100% committed to making that idea a reality.
“I have no idea,” Newsom said. “The idea that a guy who has a 960 on his SAT, who still has trouble reading scripts, who always sat at the back of the class, the idea that you would even throw that away, is extraordinary in itself. Who the hell knows? I’m looking forward to who presents themselves in 2028 and who meets at that time. That’s the question for the American people.”
Newsom turned his attention to the midterm elections, saying Democrats regaining the House of Representatives in 2026 is crucial to restoring a “rebalanced system.” He also fears that if Mike Johnson remains Speaker of the House of Representatives, Republicans will try to push for “a third term for President Trump.”
“[Trump’s] The presidency will de facto end in November next year, if we succeed. If we, the people, are successful in winning back the House,” Newsom said. “His presidency is over, de facto as we know it today, with fire and fury perhaps meaning something. But finally you have rebalanced this system.”
Another prominent Democrat, former Vice President Kamala Harris, also recently spoke about her future ambitions. She told BBC’s “Sunday with Laura Kuenssberg” about working in politics: “I’m not done yet. I’ve lived my entire career as a life of service, and it’s in my bones.”
