Gavin Casalegno Reveals ‘Summer I Turned Pretty’ Story That Made Him Hesitate
Gavin Casalegno is excited to reprise the role of Jeremiah The summer I became beautiful movie – but there was one storyline from Season 3 that made him ‘hesitate’ at the time.
During an exclusive interview with We weekly During T-Mobile’s exclusive reveal at the Las Vegas Grand Prix, Casalegno, 26, spoke about Jeremiah exploring a romance with Denise (Isabella Briggs) after breaking off his engagement to Belly (Lola Tung).
“It might be a little too early for him to get back into a relationship – if Gavin were to give any advice,” Casalegno joked. “But he’s not, so whatever makes him happy.”
Casalegno supported what Jeremiah thought was best for him, adding, “Go for it, but I’m definitely hesitant about a relationship for him.”
Season 3, which ended in September, followed Jeremiah and Belly’s journey to the altar. Despite starting the season engaged, the fictional couple called it off on the morning of their wedding — with Belly ultimately ending up with Jeremiah’s brother, Conrad (Chris Briney).
Jeremiah, meanwhile, found a connection to Steven’s (Sean Kaufman) colleague and friend Denise.
“I think Denise sees Jeremiah in a different light. Growing up with Jeremiah, there was a little bit of fame that might have gotten in the way of things,” Casalegno noted. “Denise is more real and brings out different parts of Jeremiah – but I don’t know if that’s good or bad.”
After Season 3 ended, Prime Video confirmed that a movie that could check out each character is in the works.
“I don’t have a script. I don’t have anything. I don’t even know when I’m filming,” Casalegno revealed to Us. “I know I’m going to be filming next year, so I don’t even know what it’s about. Your guess is as good as mine.”
Casalegno is excited to see where Jeremiah is now, saying, “I hope he continues to cook. I hope he continues to pursue his own passions – but I really don’t know. I even called Yana Grebenyuk Jenny [Han] the other week and said, ‘So what can you give me?’ She didn’t give me anything.”
Although Casalegno no longer has to keep Belly’s pick a secret, the actor joked that he had fun building up the anticipation.
“I’m not going to lie, I loved teasing everyone saying, ‘Hey, you never know if it’s going to be just like the book,’” he recalled. “Then they start going crazy in their heads. I had a lot of fun with that. I had a lot of fun being Team Jeremiah. To be honest, I enjoy seeing the reactions.”
He continued: “There was definitely an expectation for it [the love triangle reactions] to affect my mental health. There are so many people who cannot distinguish between reality and fiction. But fans are just passionate about this series and that’s all I can hope for. If they didn’t care at all, that would kind of suck too.”
