Fox will stream Super Bowl LIX on Tubi
Fox is taking the Super Bowl to a new frontier — or at least to a frontier that’s new to Fox.
Fox Sports will stream its telecast of Super Bowl LIX on February 9 on its sister broadband channel Tubi, a change from the recent past when the company made a stream available through Fox Sports digital outlets. The move will undoubtedly spotlight Tubi, a free, ad-supported streaming hub that has gained popularity even as many of Fox’s rivals increasingly rely on subscription-based broadband. Tubi’s stream will be available in 4K.
The Super Bowl will be distributed across Fox, Fox Deportes and NBCUniversal’s Telemundo, as well as the NFL’s digital properties. Viewers do not have to pay a subscription fee or be a subscriber to a cable or satellite system to gain access. All different storefronts are expected to use the same amount of commercials as the event broadcast.
The Fox Sports pre-game show will also be available on Tubi, as well as a “Tubi Red Carpet at Super Bowl LIX,” starting at 3:30 PM and hosted by Olivia Culpo. The Tubi program includes celebrities, fashion and culture related to the big event. Tubi’s NFL channel will host “Countdown to the Super Bowl” programming starting January 28 with footage from , featuring historic Super Bowls, iconic halftime shows, the best of NFL Honors, NFL analysis and more.
As part of efforts to use the Super Bowl to showcase other content offerings, Fox Sports will “take over” the Fox broadcast network’s daily schedule on Friday, February 7. The network will air Fox Sports 1 starting that day at noon. programs including ‘First Things First’, ‘The Facility’, ‘Speak’ and ‘Breakfast Ball’, along with ‘The Herd with Colin Cowherd’.
