Fire tornado emerges amid massive inferno destroying Los Angeles
Fox 11 Los Angeles
It was a mesmerizing and terrifying moment Friday evening as a fire tornado was sparked… as massive fires continued to devastate parts of Los Angeles.
The tornado – or ‘firenado’ – was filmed by Fox 11 on the northern flank of the Palisades fire — as winds whipped the massive flames into the stunning weather phenomenon.
Fox11s Adam Krueger I was amazed at this point…as I explained that this happens when a breeze meets an updraft – creating a vortex, which picks up flames, resulting in the firenado.
The Palisades Fire, which broke out on Tuesday, remains the largest fire to ravage Los Angeles County – it has burned more than 21,000 acres in Pacific Palisades and Malibu, and is currently only 8% contained, now the most destructive wildfire in the history of Los Angeles.
As of Saturday morning, there were 11 confirmed deaths across all LA fires – with more than 100,000 evacuation orders issued… and this list is growing over time to include Brentwood and Encino as the fire rages east into the Palisades.

As the deadly destruction continues, Gov. Gavin Newsom and mayor Karen Bass have been both heavily criticized about their response – including recent cuts to the fire service.
