Figma partners with Google to add Gemini AI to its design platform

Design platform Figma is working with Google to add more AI features, the company announced Thursday. While Figma had introduced that earlier Tools for building AI apps In itself, the new integration with Google will bring several Gemini models to the design software to meet what Figma says are the “evolving needs” of product designers and their teams.

The partnership will add Gemini 2.5 Flash, Gemini 2.0 and Imagen 4 to Figma’s toolset as the company maintains its relationship with Google Cloud.

Gemini 2.5 Flash will be integrated into the image editing process and Figma’s image generation capabilities, allowing the software’s 13 million monthly active users to create AI images with a prompt and request changes. The company believes the addition will speed up workflows, citing previous testing of Gemini 2.5 Flash in its product, where users experienced a 50% slowdown for the company’s “Make Image” feature.

The partnership is now one of several top AI makers looking to integrate their models into existing apps with a large user base as they try to gain dominance in a tight race for consumer adoption. This week, for example, OpenAI announced that its users could “chat” with apps within ChatGPT, including those from Spotify, Booking.com, Expedia, Coursera, Zillow, Canva, and others. Figma was also included in that list, indicating that the Google Gemini deal is not exclusive.

News of the Figma deal comes at the same time as Google’s announcement from Gemini Enterprisean AI-powered conversation platform designed to bring AI to enterprise customers within their existing workflows. That means users can chat with their company’s documents, data, and applications, and engineers get access to tools to build and deploy AI agents, or use a range of existing agents.

Google positioned the news as a win for AI’s potential to increase efficiency and improve workflows — something companies would likely pay for if they become dependent on the integrations. That’s a strategic move at a time when Consumers drive AI profitswhile GenAI pilots at companies often fail.

To combat this, Google noted that 65% of Google Cloud customers use its AI products.
