In one Instagram video posted on Wednesday, February 4, Savannah appeared with her siblings and discussed reports of an alleged ransom note in the media.
“As a family, we’re doing everything we can. We’re willing to talk,” she said. “However, we live in a world where voices and images can be easily manipulated. “This is Camron Guthrie, and I speak on behalf of the Guthrie family,” he said on Thursday, February 5 Instagram video. “Whoever is holding our mother, we want to hear from you. We haven’t heard anything directly. We want you to reach out and we need a way to communicate with you so we can move forward. But first we need to know if you have our mother. We want to talk to you and we’re waiting to be contacted.”
On February 1, news broke that Nancy, 84, was reported missing in Arizona. On Friday, the police had not yet named any suspects or persons of interest.
FBI Special Agent Heide Janke previously confirmed at a press conference that the FBI is aware of an alleged ransom note sent to news media, noting that “any action taken against any ransom will be ultimately decided by the family.” He also revealed that the FBI had arrested an “imposter” who tried to “profit” from the case with a separate, fake ransom note.
Janke noted that the alleged ransom note had an initial deadline of February 5 at 5 p.m., which is around the same time Camron posted his video. If that deadline was missed, Monday, February 9 was offered as a second option.
During the investigation, Savannah asked for the public’s help in locating her mother. The Today show co-anchor also expressed her wish for people to pray together that the Guthrie family will be reunited with Nancy.
“We believe in prayer. We believe in voices raised in unison, in love, in hope. We believe in goodness. We believe in humanity. Above all, we believe in Him,” Savannah wrote via Instagram on Monday, February 2. “Thank you for lifting your prayers with ours for our beloved mother, our dearest Nancy, a woman of deep conviction, a good and faithful servant. Lift your prayers with us and believe with us that she will be lifted by them at this time.”
