Fake ‘just because’ movie announcements: who is responsible?

A series of fake movie announcements for Max’s ‘And Just Like That’ recently surfaced in New York City. These communications, which are circulating on social mediacontain bogus plot details about the upcoming third season of the “Sex and the City” reboot.
“AFTER CARRIE IS ATTACKED BY A CITIBIKE, CARRIE FLETCHER RETAINES REEDE (JIM CARREY) FROM ‘LIAR, LIAR’ AS HER LAWYER,” a movie post reads.
Another features a fake plot about Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker) revealing to her friends that “she is Garfield the cat.”
In another movie post, the read project details: “CARRIE GOES ON A BAD DATE WITH MR. BEAN (THE CHARACTER) AND THEN SENDS HIM A NUDE.”
It’s not clear who is responsible for these announcements or whether they are somehow stealth marketing for the series. A rep for Max, which airs “And Just Like That,” did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Season 3 of “And Just Like That,” which began filming earlier this summer in New York City, is scheduled to debut in 2025.
A sequel to ‘Sex and the City,’ ‘And Just Like That’ follows Carrie (Parker), Miranda (Cynthia Nixon) and Charlotte (Kristin Davis) as they explore their friendship and family in their 50s. The cast also includes Mario Cantone, Sarita Choudhury, Nicole Ari Parker, David Eigenberg, Evan Handler, Christopher Jackson and John Corbett.
Sara Ramírez and Karen Pittman will not reprise their roles as Che Diaz and Nya Wallace, respectively, while recurring guest stars Sebastiano Pigazzi and Dolly Wells have been upgraded to series regulars. Newcomers include Rosie O’Donnell, Logan Marshall-Green, Mehcad Brooks and Jonathan Cake.
“And Just Like That” was developed by Michael Patrick King, who executive produces with John Melfi, Parker, Davis, Nixon, Julie Rottenberg and Elisa Zuritsky.
