EXCLUSIVE: ‘King of Hollywood’ Douglas Fairbanks’ Former Beach Paradise Sells for $16 Million

A sprawling California retreat that once belonged to the ‘King of Hollywood’ Douglas Fairbankshas sold for $15.7 million, marking only the fifth time it has changed hands in its illustrious 103-year history.
Fairbanks, who died in 1939 at the age of 56, was thrust into the spotlight when he appeared in a series of silent films, including “The Mark of Zorro,” “Robin Hood” and “The Thief of Bagdad.”
The Hollywood A-lister made history as the founder of the United Artists and the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, and he even hosted the very first Academy Awards in 1929.
During the height of his career, Fairbanks, whose old home was built in 1922, became known as much as a “bon vivant and host” as well as a star of stage and screen – regularly gathering and entertaining Hollywood’s glitterati at his extraordinary abode.
When he died, Fairbanks left behind an incredible collection of assets, including trust funds, personal property and real estate, most notably his iconic mansion in Santa Monica, where he passed away.

Now the home, located on Santa Monica’s legendary Gold Coast, has been purchased by another lucky buyer, who will not only get an elegant home, but also access to one of the world’s most special stretches of beach.
The property, which was sold by Colette Stevens by Pardee Properties, perfectly blends elegance and modern coastal luxury and features 65 feet of coveted beach frontage, according to a press release shared with Realtor.com®.
The home, located on a 0.26-acre lot, has four bedrooms and 4.5 bathrooms. It covers almost 4,000 square meters.
Although it has undergone numerous updates and renovations since Fairbanks’ ownership, the property retains much of its historic charm.
Upon entering the property, guests are greeted with a sun-drenched living room, where the sounds of the ocean can be heard.
The large glass doors open to a private backyard with a resort-style pool, lush green lawn and multiple dining areas.
Adjacent to the living space is a large chef’s kitchen that has been redesigned with marble countertops, state-of-the-art appliances and an informal dining area.

The dining area is the epitome of elegance and features a large wooden table, modern ceiling lighting and wooden beamed ceilings.
Elsewhere on the ground floor there are two guest suites and a lift.
Upstairs there is another guest suite, with its own bathroom.
Also on this top floor is the primary suite, which consists of “a tranquil oasis with a cozy sitting area, a spa-inspired bathroom with dual sinks, a soaking tub and a walk-in rain shower,” according to the press release.
Outside there is a kitchen with built-in grill and wood-fired pizza oven.
“Step onto the private ocean-view terrace and enjoy panoramic coastal vistas and postcard-perfect sunsets,” the description reads.
“Mixing Hollywood heritage with sophisticated coastal living, this redesigned oceanfront villa is more than a home. It is a rare piece of California coastal heritage, located on one of the most substantial beachfront lots on the Santa Monica coast.”
