EXCLUSIVE: ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’ Author EL James Lists a Los Angeles Mansion with Glass Walls for $7.25 Million

Author of ’50 Shades of Grey’ EL James has put her sprawling Los Angeles home on the market for $7.25 million – after taking a whopping $1 million off her original asking price.
The writer, whose best-selling trilogy was turned into a starring film series Dakota Johnson And Jamie Dornan in 2015, bought the property in 2016 for $7.3 million.
Now, almost 10 years later, the author, whose real name is Erika Mitchellis trying to offload the five-bedroom, 5.5-bathroom home, which is described in the listing as a “modern contemporary” retreat.
The property spans 5,616 square feet and offers “explosive views of all of Los Angeles, from downtown to the ocean and beyond,” according to the listing.
Luxury abounds from the moment you enter the home’s grounds, which feature enormous walls of glass with brick accents on the exterior.



Upon entering the home, guests are greeted by an expansive floor plan with floor-to-ceiling windows, allowing in natural light.
The cozy living room flows seamlessly into the chef’s kitchen, which features a large island, bar seating area, modern cabinetry and state-of-the-art appliances.
“Stone and hardwood floors, high ceilings, a high-tech kitchen with lacquered wooden cabinets and Miele appliances,” reads the ad, which is owned by Myra Nourmand from Nourmand & Associates.
One of the many bedrooms follows the same modern aesthetic with floor-to-ceiling windows, offering stunning views of the Hollywood Hills.
“Each bedroom has its own private bathroom and the primary suite offers spacious, luxurious private space and outdoor terrace patios,” the listing said.
The primary bathroom features a chic double sink, a glass shower stall and a large soaking tub in front of a large window.
There is also a second lounge area, which doubles as an entertainment center, and features a cozy fireplace, foosball table and patio access.
“The Media/Lounge features surround sound, bar, fireplace and walk-in refrigerated wine room,” the ad said.




The patio features a resort-style pool, lounge chairs and a hot tub.
The property also comes complete with its own gym.
“[A] beautiful, large pool that seems to float in the air, an outdoor grill and endless options for outdoor dining. Ample parking for 5 cars plus an elevator provide easy convenience,” the ad reads.
James is said to be the only person to own the home, which was completed in 2016, the same year she bought it and three years after the land it sits on sold for a relatively paltry $662,500.
The author bought the property four years after the debut of the first of her hugely successful books, which she initially self-published before the series became a global phenomenon, prompting James to sell the rights to Vintage Books.
Although she has long maintained a home in Los Angeles, James, who is British, lives primarily in her native Britain, where she reportedly owns several properties.
As well as having a main home in West London, the author and her screenwriter husband Niall Leonardare said to own a seaside holiday property in Cornwall, which they bought in 2013.
