Eric Dane’s friends launch GoFundMe after his death

Eric Dane’s best friends started a GoFundMe to raise money for his wife and two daughters following the actor’s death on February 19.

The GoFundMe page says about Dane, who was diagnosed in 2025 with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, known as Lou Gehrig’s disease: “After his diagnosis, Eric became a passionate spokesperson for the ALS community, using his voice and platform to advocate for fellow sufferers and push for greater awareness. Even as his own health declined, he remained deeply committed to helping others battling the same devastating disease. As his disease progressed much faster than anyone could have imagined, Eric’s friends continued to come together to create this GoFundMe to support his girls and their future needs.”

It concluded: “Any contribution, regardless of size, will help provide stability at this incredibly difficult time and into the future for Eric’s wonderful daughters.”

Of the $250,000 goal, $178,064 has been raised to date. “Euphoria” director Sam Levinson and executive producer Ashley Levinson are currently the top donors with a combined donation of $27,000 dollars.

Following news of Dane’s death, tributes poured out online from his close associates. Shonda Rhimes, the creator of Grey’s Anatomy, who gave Dane his most widely recognized role of Dr. Mark Sloan, aka ‘McSteamy’, released a memorial statement on Instagram. She wrote that Dane’s “portrayal of Dr. Mark Sloan has left an indelible mark on the series and on audiences around the world.”

The statement continued: “We are grateful for the artistry, spirit, friendship and humanity he shared with us for so many years. Our hearts are with his family, loved ones and everyone who was touched by his work.”
