Elizabeth Banks to play Karen Read in Amazon Show about murder process

Elizabeth Banks plays Karen Read in a limited series about the controversial test in development at Prime Video and Warner Bros. Television, Variety has confirmed.
The series is based on the ‘Karen’ podcast, who described the real crime saga of a woman who was accused of killing her boyfriend, a police officer in Boston who was found dead in the snow. Read was right for murder and a whole series of other alleged crimes, while her defense argued that she was framed victim of a cover-up in which law enforcement officers were involved. Read was eventually acquitted of murder, manslaughter and leaving the stage. She was convicted of drunk driving and sentenced to a year of probation.
Justin Noble, the co-maker of ‘The Sek Lives of College Girls’, will serve as showrunner of the series, Producing Executive in addition to David E. Kelley, who is best known for his Courtom dramas ‘Boston Legal’, ‘The Practice’, ‘Ally McBeal’ and Apple TV and Apple TV and Apple TV and Apple Tv+.
Banks also serves as an executive producer of the project via its Brownstone Banner, in addition to her producing partner Max Trademan and Krissy Wall. Matt Kelley is an EP via David E. Kelley Productions together with Matt Tinker. Jen Sargent, Marshall Lewy, Aaron Hart and Jeni Mulein will also produce executive via Wondery, just like Rachel Stockman and then Abrams via Law & Crime.
Banks is an actor, director and producer who is best known for her roles in the franchise “The Hunger Games” and “Pitch Perfect”. She also directed and produced the horror comedy ‘Cocaine Bear’ from 2023.
