Elin Hilderbrand on adjustments, ‘The Perfect Couple’ season 2

Elin Hilderbrand is open about her many books that are being adapted for the small and large screen. On the “Flipping the script: Bestsellers to Screen” -Paneel of Nantucket Film Festival On Sunday, Hilderbrand was accompanied by Jenna Lamia, the show runner of “The Perfect Couple” and the team of the upcoming “Vijf -Star Weekend” series, writer and producer Bekah -Execut, brunp-executive, brunp-executive, brunp-executive, brunp-executive, brunp -execute, brunp-executive, brunp-executive, brunp-executive, brunp-executive, brunp-executive, brunp-executive, Brunar -executive, brunp-executive, Brunar -executive, brunp-executive, Brunngexecutive, Brunngexecutive, Brunna -Exercutive, Brunar -Exercutive, Brunna -Exercutive. “The Five-Star Weekend” is currently in production, starring Jennifer Garner, Regina Hall, Chloë Sevigny, Gemma Chan, d’Arcy Carden and Timothy Olyphans. But it is one of the many in the works for Hilderbrand, whose first adjustment was ‘the perfect pair’.
“Jenna and I develop the series ‘Winter Street’ with Netflix,” she laughed on the panel before she delved into other adjustments. “I have a project with Universal, which I will not talk about.”
Gwartz gave her permission to say what Series that they referred to, but not on which platform it will be. “The series ‘Paradise’, which takes place on St. John, is at Universal,” said Hilderbrand. “And then ’28 Summers’ is under development. And my novel ‘The Academy’, which I wrote with my daughter, who will be released in September, is under development. And ‘The Hotel Nantucket’ is under development.”
She continued: ” Summer of ’69’ was with Sony and went upside down, and I let many projects go upside down. I had ‘the identical’ at Hulu … who went upside down. It is so difficult to make something. All stars must be watched.

During the audience Q&A she was asked what she meant by “upside down” and worked out on her shows that did not get off the ground.
“For example, ‘The Identicals’, we shopped in Hollywood. We had a number of offers. We went with Hulu. Hulu was developing with the writers … The writers had the first script and the rest of the season mapped, and they took it to Hulu, and they passed,” she said. ‘So at that time it is a dead letter office. That also happened with ‘Summer of ’69’. Sony bought it. We had great writers. The script was great and they couldn’t sell it … It always happens. “
When discussing season 2 of ‘The Perfect Couple’, she played Coy, because the show has not yet been officially renewed at Netflix and was originally planned as a limited series. However, it has been reported that a second season will be made based on her “Swan Song” book.
“If a season 2 is made, this is called ‘the perfect pair’. If a season 2 is made, it will be based on my novel ‘Swan Song’. I can say,” she said. When asked if Joanna Calo would show the potential second season, she replied: “If season 2 is made, Joanna Calo will be the show runner. Did I drink this week? “
Lamia and Hilderbrand also spoke about the evolution of season 1 of the very successful “the perfect pair”; It took many years and was not easy.
“It had a five -year roller coaster ride to be made. It was a pilot for Fox. It was a network show, and it wasn’t, and then we almost made it in Singapore with Singaporean actors,” Lamia said.
The series also changed a bit of the jump, because Netflix had a bit of a different vision – but Hilderbrand gave Lamia “general permission” to change what she needed.
“For those of you who read and said the book:” It’s nothing like the show, “Netflix really wanted a murder myster of six episodes. So there is a lot about the love affairs in the book, but not entirely [make it in]. I think you and I both had the feeling: “Oh, we wish we had two more episodes to dive into the love stories.” But that’s not what Netflix wanted, “the author said.” And it was fine, because I feel like a murder mystery with six episodes, it is one of the best there is, and it’s beautiful. I was very happy with it. ”
Lamia added: “The screen time was needed for the murder mystery and intrigues, and it was given a dark comic tone. Things just evolve over time, especially if a director gets involved, and then Cast members are involved, and you start to rewrite them. Things start to shift as much tag. [Schreiber] reported. There were things we were sad along the way to lose, but we won so much. I didn’t know it would be as funny if it ended. “
For Hilderbrand, she remembers her readers who are not always happy with an adjustment of one thing: “Everyone can read the book, and then you can enjoy the show. These are two separate experiences.”
