Diogo Jota’s death on 28: LeBron James and Sports World React
LeBron James And many other figures from the sports world mourn the tragic death of Liverpool Soccer Star Diogo Jota At the age of 28.
Jota and his brother, André Silva25, died in a car accident in the early morning hours of Thursday 3 July in the Spanish province of Zamora. The fatal crash took place less than two weeks after Jota married his old partner, RUTE CARDOSOIn Porto, Portugal, on June 22.
A spokesperson for the Spanish Guardia Civil told BBC News That the first investigation found that “the car, a Lamborghini, was a traffic accident and left the road because of a tire bladder while catching up.”
“It was in the early hours, 00:30 BST, in the municipality of Cernadilla in the province of Zamora. The car caught fire and the two passengers were killed,” their statement continued.
NBA legend James, 40, was one of the sports agencies to pay tribute to Jota, writing Via x On Thursday: “My prayers go out to his loved ones during this time! Can you all be led and protected! Ynwa [‘You’ll Never Walk Alon’e] Jota !! “

“I will always remember you with your smile, like a good companion on and next to the field,” Núñez promised, 26, via Instagram. “I send all my strength to his family, wherever he is, I am sure he will always be with you, especially for his wife and his three children.”
Liverpool’s former manager, Jürgen Kloppwrote his own moving memorial for the promising player he signed at Liverpool FC in 2020.

“This is a moment when I struggle! There must be a bigger goal! But I can’t see it,” wrote Klopp, 58, via Instagram. “I am deeply sad to hear about the death of Diogo and his brother André. Diogo was not only a fantastic player, but also a good friend, a loving and caring husband and father! We will miss you so much!”
Klopp continued: “All my prayers, thoughts and strength to rescue, the children, the family, the friends and everyone who loved them! Rest in peace.”
Liverpool Football Club published a statement about his website To express the sadness and disbelief of his athletes about losing one of their beloved teammates.

The club has been informed that the 28-year-old died after a traffic accident in Spain together with his brother, Andre,” the organization said. “Liverpool FC will currently not give any further comments and the privacy of Diogo and Andre’s family, friends, teammates and club staff will be respected if they try to process an unimaginable loss. We will continue to offer them with our full support.”
Likewise, Portuguese football federation -President Pedro Proenca stated that the entire sports community of the country “was completely destroyed by the death of Diogo Jota and his brother André.”
“Much more than a great player, with nearly 50 international performances for the national team, Diogo Jota was an extraordinary person, someone with an infectious joy and a reference in the community itself,” said Proenca. “On behalf of me, and on behalf of the Portuguese football federation, I express my deepest participation to the family and friends of Diogo and Andre Silva, as well as Liverpool FC and FC Penafiel, the clubs where they played their football respectively.”
Proenca’s statement concluded: “The loss of Diogo and Andre represent irreplaceable losses for Portuguese football and we will do everything every day to honor their estate.”

Days before the death of Jota, his wife, Cardoso, shared various photos of the wedding of the couple via social media, and noted that her “dream came true” when she made a tie with the Liverpool player.
“But I am the lucky one,” Jota replied.
Jota is survived by Cardoso and their three children: two sons, Dinis and Duarte, born in 2021 and 2023, and a daughter whose name was not publicly announced.
