Despite strike action, Lufthansa offers 60 percent of its long-haul flights | News

Following the call by the Vereinigung Cockpit union for a full-day strike on Thursday 12 and Friday 13 March 2026, Lufthansa has published a special flight schedule for both days. More than 50 percent of the originally planned flight program can be offered on Thursday and Friday. For long-distance connections, this share is even 60 percent.

Francesco Sciortino, Hub Manager Frankfurt & Accountable Manager Lufthansa Airlines: ‘Lufthansa’s top priority is to get as many passengers as possible to their destinations, despite the Vereinigung Cockpit strike. I would therefore like to express my sincere thanks to the many pilots who have volunteered for us and will be on duty on Thursday and Friday.’

In addition, numerous flights to and from Frankfurt and Munich will be taken over by other airlines of the Lufthansa Group and by partner airlines. Larger aircraft will also be used on strike days to accommodate more passengers.

Despite the strike call for Thursday and Friday, Lufthansa Cargo will be able to fly more than 80 percent of its cargo flight program.

The Vereinigung Cockpit union has announced that it will exempt flights to the Middle East from the strike call due to the current geopolitical situation. This concerns one flight from Frankfurt to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, scheduled for tomorrow, Thursday.

Lufthansa City Airlines will operate all flights scheduled for Thursday and Friday. Lufthansa CityLine, which was also affected by the Vereinigung Cockpit strike on Thursday, can offer almost its entire flight program again on Friday.

Customers will be actively notified by email if their flight is affected. Passengers who have not been contacted can rest assured that their flight will not be affected for the time being. Travelers are asked to check their contact details and keep them up to date, so that they are informed of any changes in a timely manner.
