Washington reunites with director Ridley Scott Gladiator 2which also stars Irish actor Paul Mescal, following their collaboration in 2007 American gangster.

And it was Scott’s involvement that… Malcolm X star to sign on and it turned out to be a smart move as Washington is now being touted for another Oscar for his role in the film.

He told Empire Magazine: “I have to be inspired by the filmmaker, and I was very inspired by Ridley.

“We had a great first round and here we are. He’s engaged. He’s excited about life and his next movie. He’s an inspiration.

“We would all like to feel that way at age 86.”
