Demi Moore, Nicole Scherzinger on the Night of Family Equality at the Pier Gala
The annual evening of Family Equality at De Pier brings LGBTQ+ families, allies and proponents together to honor the Changemakers who fought for equality and have formed a more inclusive world. The Gala on Thursday evening in the Chelsea Piers of New York City collected $ 1.5 million to support the work of Family Equality to promote the legal and lived equality for LGBTQ+ families throughout the country.
Untitled Entertainment Founding Partner Jason Weinberg and his screenwriter Husband Merritt Johnson received the Luigi Caiola Luminary Award. “We feel so strong about the equality of the family and the work they do,” said Johnson.
“We think it is very important, especially these times in which we are.” Weinberg added: “We don’t want family to be pulled apart. We actually have to speak and not be quiet.”
Moore said: “Family comes in many different forms and in the base it is based on love.”
The event also celebrated a decade of the equality of marriage to Jim Obergefell, the most important claimant in the historical case of the American Supreme Court of 2015 who has the right to get married for millions of Americans.
