David Beckham makes parenting comment hours after Brooklyn statement

Speaking on CNBC’s Squawbox on January 20, the football legend discussed parenting, social media and raising children in the public eye, with comments that quickly raised eyebrows given the timing.

“I’ve always talked about social media and the power of social media. For better or for worse,” he began. “What kids have access to today can be dangerous. But what I’ve personally found, especially with my kids, is use it for the right reasons.”

“I was able to use my platform for my followers, for UNICEF. And it has been the biggest tool in raising awareness about what is happening to children around the world. And I have tried to do the same with my children, by educating them,” he added.

But it was David’s comments about mistakes that seemed particularly pointed.

“They make mistakes, but kids are allowed to make mistakes. That’s how they learn. That’s what I try to teach my kids, sometimes you have to let them make those mistakes too,” he shared, seemingly acknowledging his family drama.
