Dana Carvey says he was ‘delicate’ with ‘SNL’ Joe Biden impression

About a recent episode of his “Fly on the wall“Podcast, Dana Carvey discussed what it was like to return to” Saturday Night Live “to play Joe Biden. Carvey said it was” clear “that the former president had a hard time, and that it was” delicate “to fool someone he felt” mentally compromised “.
“I knew he was mentally compromised, I mean, it was clear. But it was a delicate case in the comedy world,” Carvey said. “There were many people who didn’t want to do anything that would let him go in an uncomfortable way.”
Carvey described the feeling of playing Biden as “surreal” and “bizarre”, but still “lots of fun”. He said his goal was with his impression to be funny without being mean, and added that there were some lines that he would not cross.
“That is the key, if I can do Biden, if I can make bides funny for everyone, then I am where I want to be,” he explained. “And to make it funny, it had to be recognizable. And so there were certain things that I didn’t include in my package.”
Podcast Co-Gastheer and colleague “SNL” Alum David Spade shared his own perspective and explained that some public figures otherwise make sensitive impressions “honest game”.
Spade said, “I think it is easier to laugh at him when he is the president than when it is just a 90-white-year-old man and just goes:” Look at this A-hole. ” So once he is president, he is a more honest game.
