‘Culinary Class Wars’ renewed for Netflix with team-based format

Netflix is moving forward with a third season of the Korean cooking competition “Culinary Class Wars,” making a major format change that shifts the competition from individual chef battles to restaurant team showdowns.

The innovation reconfigures the hit series around teams of four people representing one location. The structural pivot transforms competition into a collective challenge where entire kitchens compete for pride and reputation, rather than individual culinary prowess.

Chef applications for season 3 are running through Netflix Korea’s social channels. Participation is limited to teams of four people currently working in the same restaurant. Individual entries and multi-restaurant lineups will not be accepted, although restaurants operating under the same brand in multiple locations may participate as a unified team.

“Culinary Class Wars” has been in Netflix’s Global Top 10 for non-English TV rankings for two years in a row. Season 2 primarily drew attention for its increased competitive dynamics, inventive rule structures, and escalating stakes, while maintaining the franchise’s core appeal.

Studio Slam returns to produce Season 3 and reunites the original creative team, including producer Kim Eun-ji and writer Mo Eun-seol, who were instrumental in shaping the series’ trajectory.

“Thanks to the incredible support from viewers around the world during Season 2, we are grateful to move forward with Season 3,” said Kim. “We will do our best to provide an even more exciting format and entertainment that lives up to expectations.”

The first season was widely regarded as the revitalization of Seoul’s food scene, with increased restaurant bookings and renewed interest in the city’s culinary talent.
