Critical Role adds Brennan Lee Mulligan as Campaign 4 Game Master

Unlike popular (joke) Faith, “Dimension 20” Brennan Lee Mulligan does not leave his career to make custom made American doll shoes. No, not only has Mulligan concluded a new three-year development agreement at his old home media company Dropout (formerly Collegehumor), but he will visit the team in a critical role as their game master for the next core campaign of the Tabletop Role-Playing Game, Actual-Play Series’.
On Thursday 2 October, the currently titll -free campaign 4 will be “in a new era with new legends to be forged in a brand new world”, per crucial role. The fourth episode follows the previous core campaigns: “Vox Machina” (Campaign 1), “The Mighty Nein” (Campaign 2) and most recently “Bells Hells” (Campaign 3).
The best known as the Dungeon Master for his drop-out actually game series “Dimension 20”, Mulligan will serve as a game master for the full duration of Campaign 4, “His characteristic depth, humor, humor and high-stakes drama bring to the next big adventure of crucuit Role.” Mulligan takes over the role of Critical Role’s Staple Game Master, Matt Mercer, who will “take a little breathing break”, while the series explores the world outside the usual Exandria setting.

For each crucial role, Beacon subscribers will also “get exclusive access to all episodes of Critical Role Cooldown for Campaign 4, where the cameras continue to roll and you get a chair in the front row on the reactions after the cast of the cast.”
In addition to “Dimension 20”, the remarkable projects of Mulligan include popular podcast “Worlds Beyond Number” and other dropout original series, including “Game Changer”, “Make Some Noise” and “Very important people”. Mulligan recently signed a new three-year-old deal with dropout, including continuing to lead “Dimension 20” creative and strategic, as well as a general development agreement to create and produce new dropout series.
“Crucial role has always been about real connection through storytelling in the first place, and as Brennan will tell you yourself, he has still played more TTRPGs from a camera than before. His passion and drive for world construction is contagious, and it is an absolute pleasure to spank him while we are progressing.”
Critical role creative director, co-founder and cast member Marisha Ray added: “We not only run a page we start a whole new book. Everything about campaign 4 is fresh; New World, new tone, new possibilities. We can’t wait for the fans to experience what we have built.”
See below for Variety‘S Q&A with Mulligan about his new deal with outages and plans for his temporary takeover in a critical role.
Exciting times! First, you’re pretty busy now – will your role – master for Critical Role’s Campaign 4 influence production on “Dimension 20” from Dropout?
We are at the start of an epic adventure. I am about to start with – again, to my great honor and privilege – behind the screen with a critical role for the start of campaign 4. Oh my God, I can’t wait to share what we cook with everyone. And I can also say, on ‘Dimension 20’, we are now cooking several seasons.
The future is very rosy. I have just signed a new three -year -old deal, not only to continue to lead creatively and strategically with my beloved fearless heroes and all our great friends who work with us many, many, long years in the dimensional umbrella organization, but also a new development agreement for even things and projects outside, waiting in the fog for us to discover. Because things at Dropout are just great, and we have so many great people to work with. The future is very rosy.
In terms of one of these projects that influence the other, the primary and I think that the excitement and enthusiasm about Campaign 4 of Crucial Role influence all the amazing things that prepare it with “Dimension 20” is that I may be lucky for a person I have all this pleasure. That is the number one, and some impact is that I have a damn ball. It is very exciting.
We are also a book one of “The Wizard, the Witch and the Wild One” completed for “Worlds Beyond Number”, which I am so proud of. I will also become a player at the table of one, the only, the inimitable of Aabria Iyengar, for whom I am so enthusiastic about being a PC in the next big, main campaign of “Worlds Beyond Number.” So that is very exciting.
So would you say that there was enough in the “D20” pipeline this would not have an influence on the production or release schedule?
Just earlier this month we shot a great season of “Dimension 20”. And I hate to create, but while you ask, it is one of the most delicious, funny, tears that were beautiful versions. It was also a wonderful production experience. We went home on time. We didn’t even go on our schedule. The reason that I am able to play in the epic adventures and fantasy worlds of a critical role, and that I can tell this million different dimensions of candy “Game of Thrones” and high school for heroes is all these things at “Dimension 20”, because really of the zeal, brilliance and incredible work ethics.
How did this crucial roll opportunity arise?
It started a while ago. Critical Role has ‘The Legend of Vox Machina’, ‘The Mighty Nein’, comics and shows and live shows and stories and the incredible work that went to Darrington Press and ‘Daggerheart’. Just the number of performance, creative and artistic in a critical role is so in -depth. De ervaring die ik creatief had met “rampheid” en “ondergang” en “divergentie” was gewoon zo positief en zo’n genot om dat met iedereen daar te delen, dat naarmate het bedrijf zich uitbreidt en de oprichtingscast dit ongelooflijke creatieve imperium heeft om te beheren, ik denk dat het naar me toekijkt om de rinke te nemen, grotendeels dat de releins te nemen, grotendeels dat de ring, grotendeels zo is dat de ongelooflijke creatieve Spirits can all be there that they can do. And it’s a pleasure and a privilege for me to be able to do that. I know this is glib, but I finally play almost as much TTRPG as I would like. We get close.
Can you say which game system you think you use for this?
I would like to share that that announcement is planned and on a route.
Returning to the renewal of the deal with dropout – can you show in which new series and projects you are enthusiastic about pursuing in the future for dropout, outside “Dimension 20”?
It has been the honor and privilege of your life to be the maker and EP of “Dimension 20” and my work there also on all our shows, “Make Some Noise” and “Game Changer.” And there are so many projects that, as dropout continues to expand and thrive – we now have this incredible development team, not only from the senior leadership at the company, but like Paul Robobino, Rosie Keller and Elise Finley, who are great. They are so brilliant.
And in terms of what I am personally enthusiastic about, the worlds along the horizon for Dropout, I think we have this great facility with unwritten content. And there are many ideas that I have from my background in Larping, or my background in other activities and hobbies that I am looking at and I go: “We work with the biggest improvisators on the planet, can we find unwritten locations that tell a story that we have not yet received?”
But then further, this is a large, multi -year deal. Dropout is my home. Sam Reich gave me that phone call and changed my life, so I will be there. They will have to drag me and scream out of dropout, American girls-doll shoes joke despite. Nothing could force me to leave. And I am so proud to be associated with a company like Dropout and the horizon is so wide. Maybe tell different types of stories, even further than unwritten? Are there things on the distant horizon for our company that might be logical?
Recently “Dimension 20” released a web tone strip series based on the “Fantasy High” season. Are there any other “Dimension 20” story lines that you adjust in the same way for a different format?
You know what, I don’t hate you to talk about you about, so I will take a risk here and say: in different ways to share our world, there is more than one world that currently receives TLC in terms of what other angles can be investigated, even outside the limits of the actual game.
Set well. A few more important questions here: Which American Girl -Pop Do you prefer to find custom shoes?
Josefina, and it’s because I learned how to pronounce her name correctly. I said it wrong in the video and people let me really have it, let me tell you. So those are my mea culpas. We get the name of Josefina well and we get those shoes well.
Which of those sketch videos you ultimately hope The episode “Fool’s Gold” from “Game Changer”?
I have to say I think Izzy Roland’s “More Buttholes” video Become a dark horse. I think people pay attention. Izzy Roland is the funniest comedian in the world. And everyone who doesn’t think so, they have a problem with me.
And finally, you will illuminate green from a full season of Katie Marovitch’s “Dimension 20: on a bus”?
Wow, it’s a great question. I am not going to lie, I have reserved a full season about green lighting, just because Katie is so much a better “Dragon Master” than I think it will dimming my light and looks bad compared to. And I know Katie comes out of my throat. I mean, Marovitch is one of the most ruthless operators there are, don’t let it twist. It is a blades from massacre, so they call her Marovitch massacre. And you can quote me for that.
Are you considering to implement Katie’s strictly D6 -Rolling Method in your work?
I am waiting to see if Katie can add a tactical movement element, because combat sets are an important part of the design esthetics of “Dimension 20.” I would also like there that there is only more than one rule, people feel like a little not enough. I asked if Katie could even make two or three extra rules. She hung up on me and then destroyed my house. But that is Katie Bloodbath Marovitch. And again, I hope the name lingers.
