Cristin Milioti on ‘In Your Dreams’, ‘The Penguin’ Season 2 Potential

Cristin Milioti insists she isn’t thinking too much about the possibility of ‘The Penguin’ getting a second season.
“I feel like I don’t have a cold feeling about it, because I’m asked about it every time [about a Season 2]I’m like, ‘Sign me up!’” Milioti, who won an Emmy for her work on the DC Comics show, told me while promoting her new animated Netflix film “In Your Dreams.” “I love [series creator] Laurens [LeFranc] so much. I love our entire cast. It’s such an incredible group.”
“The Penguin” star Colin Farrell has consistently insisted he is “in no rush” for a second installment of the series. “I don’t want it. I don’t want it,” he told me at the SAG Awards in February. “We left it all in those eight hours in the ring. … So I’m not in a rush. I don’t have a deep desire to do it.”
However, in July, after the Emmy nominations were announced, HBO and Max boss Casey Bloys said VarietyMichael Schneider reports that LeFranc and executive producer Matt Reeves have had discussions about Season 2. Reeves confirmed at the Emmys that discussions have taken place, but his current priority is directing the second “The Batman” film starring Robert Pattinson.
In Your Dreams centers on divorce as two young siblings meet the mythical Sandman in their dreams and ask him to keep their parents (Milioti and Simu Liu) together as they move toward divorce.
Milioti first read the script in 2021. “It really moved me to think about how we deal with hardship and how we sometimes want things to be different, and the ways we deal with that,” she said.
While marital problems may seem too serious an issue for a family film, Milioti points to other animated films that tackle deeper topics.
“If you go back and watch some of the Disney movies like ‘The Lion King,’ it’s ‘Hamlet.’ And ‘Bambi’? Forget it,” Milioti said. “That’s one of the most special things about this film and also about animation. It starts a nuanced conversation with kids like, ‘This can be really hard and scary. It can feel like your world is falling apart and changing. But it’s not as scary as it seems.'”
‘In Your Dreams’ is available on Netflix.
