Content Americas Copro Pitch Projects Leverage genre and true stories

Now in its third edition, Content Americas, the Miami-based event focused on the Latin American and Spanish-speaking markets, featuring telenovelas, series, documentaries and formats, continues to seek to bridge the gap between creative communities in Latin America, Spain and Portugal and the larger global stage. One of the key initiatives is the Copro Pitch, aimed at facilitating international co-production deals and this year featuring projects from Caponeto-Fremantle, Vertice 360 ​​​​and Druzina Content.

The five projects at the Copro Pitch 2025 have been selected from more than 60 entries and cover a wide range of topics and genres. Argentina’s Listos Para Rodar arrives in Miami with a documentary series about the mental and physical toll of being a professional athlete in ‘Insane’, while neighboring Brazil is betting on the potential of a high-concept sci-fi franchise with Bactéria Filmes and Druzina Content’s ‘Tales of Tomorrow: Prelude to a Revolution’ and the modern western with ‘The Guardians’ from Cinefilm.

Among the three projects up for a chance to win a $20,000 prize in marketing to support development and pre-sales promotion are “The Perfect Target” from Mexico’s Caponeto and Spain’s “Lucio’s Treasure,” courtesy of Vertice 360.

Mexico-based production company Caponeto is joining forces with Fremantle, the production and distribution powerhouse behind hit formats like ‘Got Talent’ and ‘Idols’, for ‘The Perfect Target’, which aims to merge the worlds of advertising and politics through through humor. “Latin America – and the world in general – is filled with politicians who stir up controversy and often become comic figures,” the producers say. Variety. “In the middle of the woke era, a right-wing wave is rising like a tsunami. The series is a sharp, entertaining blend of humor and thriller, but at its core it’s a character-driven story about two alpha males forced to work together despite their clashing egos.

“Lucio’s Treasure” is pitched to Content Americas by veteran Spanish producer Alberto Rull (“El Ultimo Verano,” “Colza, the Invisible Enemy”). The series follows the titular character, who lives in Paris disguised as a bricklayer, but is in reality the man responsible for the largest network of traveler’s check counterfeiters, which threatens the stability of the First National City Bank of America. “This series could be a great international series,” says Rull Variety. “It has all the necessary elements: the action takes place in Paris at the beginning of the 80s, the CIA, Scotland Yard and high-profile French personalities take part in the investigation, and the main character is a Spanish exile and anarchist from a friendly, charismatic character.”

‘Tales of Tomorrow: Prelude to a Revolution’ expands the universe of ‘Tales of Tomorrow’, a Brazilian indie film released in 2021 that has played more than 30 festivals and won a slew of awards at US genre festivals series producer Luciana Druzina, CEO of Druzina Content and member of the International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, explains Variety that science fiction has a “very large audience in Brazil” and makes up for “some of the biggest box office successes in Latin America.” ‘Prelude to a Revolution’ offers Druzina and the team the opportunity to ‘create fantastic stories with our own style, with our locations and our culture.’

The second Brazilian project at this year’s Copro Pitch, ‘The Guardians’, also taps into the genre and promises to be a ‘contemporary Western drama’ that ‘captivates from the first episode’. Following a First Nation family’s journey into the heart of the Amazon rainforest, the six-episode series will address environmental and political issues of importance to the region, with producers narrating Variety that the show will make a “bold statement on the issues shaping our world today” and “provide a unique perspective on the international criminal economy, exploring the underreported phenomenon of land grabbing in a way never seen before.”

From a Brazilian Western to the real lives of professional athletes, ‘Insane’ promises to give viewers a glimpse into the minds of extreme athletes who push the limits of the human body and mind.
