Christie Brinkley lifts the lid about the life of horror with Billy Joel
Christie Brinkley admitted her whirlwind life with Billy Joel, filled with an alcohol addiction and a possible affair, was too much to handle, and she “had to walk away”, Radaronline.com can reveal.
The 71-year-old appeared on the Completely booked with Zibby Podcast to open about her ex-husband, who now has to deal with a brain disorder.
In Brinkley’s new memoirs, Uptown girlThe former model described a lot on her life with Joel, including The Dark Times; Something she found hard to do.
“The part that emphasized me the most, because I would never want to hurt him, is (writing) about Billy,” said Brinkley during her podcastchat. “I don’t like to say something bad about someone ever, but I had to explain myself, as why I would ever have ran away from that relationship that was so great, that was so just beautiful.
“But there was something I couldn’t compete with, that I tried and I tried to get on from every perspective.
Brinkley explained that she “had to walk away” from the relationship, and “I also had to write about it so that people understood why.
“I think in the context I make it clear that he had a kind of stress that – nobody should have to deal with the kind of stress he was under.
The blonde beauty continued: “We were 12 years old. We went out of the first year and lived together. We were engaged the following year, and then we were married … And so at the time I may have four authorities in the book where his behavior hurt me and I explained it, and in context, I think it is understandable.”
Despite the drama from their roller coaster wedding, Brinkley wanted to “make it very clear how magical my time was with him.”
In her book, Brinkley touches on countless things that Joel has had during it.
“To this day, Billy continues to deny that they have ever had things, and I have always believed him,” she admitted in her memoirs. “But on that new year in 1994, when he finally walked home, I asked him to leave.” Although she “never wanted to end” with Joel, the “other woman” became the last drop of their marriage.
Brinkley, who was married to Joel from 1985 to 1994, said: “I did everything for our wedding and constantly worked to make myself, our house and everything around us in whatever he could or hope.
“I constantly told him how much I loved him, and made sure that he always felt worn and appreciated because he was.”
