The mother previously wrote about their decision to quit their hit show ‘Fixer Upper’ in her bloggingtelling fans, “This is simply the realization that we need to take a breath. Our plan is to use this time to strengthen and strengthen the weak areas, rest the areas that are tired, and give lots of love and attention to both our family and our business.”

The Gaines have largely kept their children out of the spotlight since 2018.

At the time, they found they needed to focus on their family.

Joanna previously opened up about life at her ranch in Waco, Texas, during an appearance on the “Today‘, in which she gives a glimpse into some of the tips and tricks viewers will find on her new show ‘Magnolia Table: At the Farm’, which she co-hosts with Chip.

The on-air renovation expert, who hosts the show from her own home, explained that one of the “weird” ways she tries to make the home more appealing to visitors is by always having an array of treats in her kitchen – a tradition she says started with a wedding gift she and Chip received in 2003.

“There’s a cake stand on the island that since my first wedding – it was like the first year – I got as a wedding gift and it was empty,” she explained. “I had so many friends and family come in and I thought, ‘I’ve got to have something in there,’ so it was kind of a weird line that I made.”

To this day, Joanna says, she continues to keep the cake stand stocked with something baked good to offer to guests (or her children) when they’re craving a sweet treat.

“The rule is that there should always be something on the cake plate for the family or for guests,” she said.

However, she admitted that after her two eldest children left home to go to university, she ended up being the person who participated most often.

“I’m actually eating it now, so that’s fun. It’s on me now,” she joked.

“Magnolia Table: At the Farm” marks a new chapter for the Gaines family, who had previously used a separate kitchen to film various parts of the series in an effort to keep their own home as a safe haven.

To ensure their family didn’t experience too much disruption, Joanna revealed she had introduced some strict restrictions around when filming could take place – and how many people were allowed in their home at any one time during production.

Joanna also previously discussed how difficult it would be for Ella to move out of her home when she went to university.

“Ella, our second child, is graduating this year. So we’re going through that again with another child leaving the nest and trying to stay emotionally stable,” the mother of five explained, prompting Chip to ask, “Do you think this is going to be harder? [than it was with Drake]?”

‘Yes. I think there is an emotional difference,” she admitted.

As she and Ella spend more time together during the day, she thinks she will feel a much bigger hole in her life than when her son moved out, Joanna explained.

“With Ella we like to go to antique shops, plant shops and get coffee – that’s our rhythm. I feel like I’m losing a friend in everyday life,” she said.
