ChatGPT finally offers $100/month Pro plan

OpenAI on Thursday announced something power users have always asked for: a $100 per month subscription. Until now, the plans have been priced at: free (now including ads), an $8/month Go plan (including ads), a $20/month Plus plan (without ads), and then all the way up to a $200 Pro plan (also ad-free).

OpenAIs pricing plans page currently doesn’t list a $200/month plan at all. However, that highest level is still available, OpenAI confirmed to TechCrunch.

The model maker says Plus (which remains $20/month) and the new $100 Pro level are intended to support everyday use of ChatGPT’s coding tool Codex. The $100 Pro plan offers 5x more Codex than the Plus plan.

OpenAI makes no secret of the fact that this new price point is a challenge for Anthropic, which has long had a $100 per month option for Claude.

“The new $100 Pro Tier is designed to give developers more hands-on coding power for their money, especially during high-intensity work sessions where limits matter most. Compared to Claude Code, Codex delivers more coding power per dollar at paid tiers, with the difference most apparent during active coding use,” an OpenAI spokesperson told TechCrunch.

One thing to know: OpenAI is offering even higher Codex limits on the $100 plan through May 31. So anyone who tries the new level goes relatively crazy with coding and never gets a rate warning: keep in mind that such a situation is unlikely to last.

None of the plans offer unlimited usage. However, the $200 plan offers 20x higher limits than Plus. The model maker promises on its FAQ that this is enough to “continuously support your most demanding workflows, even across parallel projects.” Both Pro plans offer the same core features. The main difference is the rate limits, the company says.

The spokesperson also says that more than 3 million people worldwide use Codex every week, “a fivefold increase in the last three months, with usage growing by more than 70% month on month.”
