Chase Stokes talks about the Seal Team’s military training for Valiant One
Familiar faces returned to Poguelandia on Saturday. As the cast and crew of “Outer Banks” celebrated the premiere of Season 4 Part 2 at a fan event in Santa Monica, some stars also teased future projects.
Chase Stokes will star as a US Army technology specialist in the action thriller ‘Valiant One’. “My character is not your traditional soldier,” Stokes said Variety. “He is someone who works at a desk on a base and finds himself in a very unconventional situation. So it’s a bit of a hero’s journey.”
He discussed the parallels between his “Valiant One” character and Glen Powell’s portrayal of Gary Johnson in “Hit Man.” While both actors play unassuming characters who find themselves in combat roles, Stokes also shared his interest in working behind the camera in a creative way.
“[Glen Powell] being someone who was a writer on ‘Hit Man’ and then bringing that to life is something I’m actively doing now,” Stokes said. “What he has done to create space for the leading man again is a beautiful thing… Glen is definitely someone I look up to in a career that I continue to try to shape.”
Stokes also added that a former member of Naval Special Warfare Group 3 was hired to give the cast “extensive military training, from weapons to how we move, how we enter buildings.” The actor said: “When we tested the film, we did it with people in the armed forces, and they were very happy with how accurate we were with our representation.”
Rudy Pankow said he was looking for a project that addresses gun violence: “It’s something that needs to be addressed and discussed now. We really need to come together as people in this country.”
The ‘Uncharted’ star believes film can be an effective artistic medium to provoke important discussions around the subject.
“That’s something I’d like to talk about. Sometimes a movie can provide a solution,” Pankow said. “There has to be an art and a meaning behind it that basically says, ‘This is wrong.’ Art can stimulate that.”
During the event, Austin North promoted some of its recent projects, including the Amazon Studios action drama “One Fast Move” starring KJ Apa and the Dylan Sprouse-led romantic comedy “Beautiful Wedding” on Hulu.
“I grew up watching Dylan and his brother Cole on Disney. My sister saw Dylan’s face at the Mall of Georgia, and it was an acting show, and she signed me up for it. That’s how I got into acting,” North said Variety. “So it literally goes back to Dylan’s face. I booked (‘Beautiful Wedding’) and I told him the story, and he said ‘wow, that’s amazing, man’, but he’s someone I’ve always looked up to as an actor.
In addition to playing Cleo Anderson, Carlacia Grant has featured some of her cooking recipes on the show and created a culinary series for the Poguelandia event in Santa Monica.
“There’s the menu I put together, and we have clima chicken cheese on bread. We have a menu item for every cast member,” Grant said.
She added that she’s looking forward to experimenting with gumbo, grilled oysters and spicy crab cakes for Season 5 of “Outer Banks.”
Madison Bailey, who plays Kiara Carrera on the series, expressed her excitement about the release of her upcoming music.
“I’m making more music,” she said Varietyadding that the potential to use her music on “Outer Banks” would be “kind of a dream.” Maybe next season.”
In season 4, part 2, Bailey also shared, “My character is going to have a life-changing moment.”
A few days after the fan event, Netflix announced that “Outer Banks” is coming to an end with the upcoming season 5.
