CharacterAI removes Disney characters after receiving cease-and-desist letter

The company enables users to generate AI chatbots that can vary from real people such as Elon Musk to fictional characters such as Hermione Granger, Plus our own original creations of users. These chatbots can be fairly unfiltered – in a particularly horrible case a family character complained to. After a chatbot inspired by a Game of Thrones character, their teenage son has encouraged to commit suicide.
“Karat.ai is freeriding of the goodwill of Disney’s famous points and brands, and is ashamed of Disney’s copyright,” wrote a Disney lawyer in the letter from Stakten-and-Desists. “Even worse, the infringing chatbots of the character. In some cases, Aize is known for sexually exploiting and otherwise harmful and dangerous for children who insult Disney’s consumers and display the reputation and goodwill of Disney extraordinary.”
From now on character.ai is looking for Disney characters such as Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, Captain America and Luke Skywalker, no results. However, other characters from the media who are copyright still appear in search results, such as Percy Jackson and Hannah Montana.
