Britney fears ‘return to rehab, prison and conservatorship’ after arrest

Despite the concerns, Spears is said to have resisted suggestions that she should enter a treatment program before her court hearing in May. Sources said members of her family, including her mother Lynne Spears, have discussed whether rehab could prove accountability to a judge.
Another source said: “There are those close to her who think being proactive – whether that means checking into a treatment program or showing a willingness to address issues head-on – could help her legal position and demonstrate responsibility.
“But from Britney’s perspective, that approach doesn’t feel supportive. She sees it as contributing to a long-standing narrative about her need for supervision or intervention, something she’s spent years trying to break free from, so she’s resistant to anything that might reinforce that perception.”
Spears has long associated driving with her independence, with one insider noting that she viewed it as a symbol of personal freedom even during her conservatorship. During that period, control of her vast showbiz fortune and daily life was handed over to her father, Jamie Spears, from whom she has been estranged since the arrangement ended in 2021.
An insider commented: “For Britney, driving isn’t just a practical matter – it has a much deeper meaning related to independence and being in control of her own decisions. It’s one of the few everyday freedoms that she strongly associates with the ability to live life on her own terms.
“That’s why the thought of losing her driver’s license, or having new restrictions imposed on her, feels so important. It’s not just about transportation — it represents a loss of autonomy, and that makes the idea of having it taken away by the law so hard for her to accept.”
