British politician Jacob Rees-Mogg gets Discovery+ docuseries
Controversial British politician Jacob Rees-Mogg has been confirmed to be getting his own reality show.
The Discovery+ UK and Ireland series is called ‘Meet the Rees Moggs’ and follows the former MP – who lost his parliamentary seat last week – over five 60-minute episodes.
The series, produced by Optomen, features Rees-Mogg in the run-up to the general election and its aftermath. The game is scheduled to appear on Discovery+ later this year.
“With exclusive access, this fly-on-the-wall documentary series will provide a never-before-seen look at his life at home in the 17th-century Somerset house where he lives with his wife and six children,” the logline reads.
The conservative politician has become a meme for his old-fashioned dress sense and sensibility. He once admitted that, despite having six children (the last of whom is called Sixtus Dominic Boniface Christopher Rees-Mogg), he had never changed a nappy. “The nanny is doing a brilliant job,” he said at the time. ‘I have never pretended to be a modern man.’
It has long been suspected that Rees-Mogg is planning a transition from politician to media personality, much like his former fellow MPs Matt Hancock, who appeared on the reality show ‘I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!’ and Boris Johnson, who has returned to journalism after his stint as prime minister. Rees-Mogg currently has a show on the controversial British network GB News, where media regulator Ofcom found he had occasionally broken impartiality rules.
“Animals, children, an election and a film crew. What could go wrong? This everyday story of Somerset people is fun to film, but perhaps a little more ‘Fawlty Towers’ than ‘Downton Abbey’,” said Rees-Mogg of his new series.
The Discovery+ series was commissioned by Charlotte Reid for Discovery+ and produced for Warner Bros. Discovery by Deirdre Dowling and Matt Reid. Nick Hornby is the executive producer of Optomen, an All3Media company.
