‘Brilliant Minds’ dropped from NBC schedule in favor of ‘The Voice’

“Brilliant Minds” is looking DOA, with NBC pulling the final six episodes of the medical drama from its schedule.
The show, and virtually all of NBC’s primetime programming, was on hiatus for the next two weeks as the network transitioned to expanded coverage of the 2026 Winter Olympics. But now NBC has announced that “The Voice: Battle of Champions” will air on Mondays from 9:00-11:00 PM ET/PT, starting with the season premiere on February 23.
No date has been set for the return of “Brilliant Minds,” other than saying the final episodes will air sometime later in the season or in the summer, according to a person with knowledge of the decision.
“Brilliant Minds” has seen a decline in ratings in its second season. According to Nielsen Live+7 data for the season 2 premiere, the show earned a 0.28 rating among adults 18-49 and 3.67 million viewers. For the episode that aired on January 12, the most recent episode for which Live+7 data is available, the show received a 0.19 rating and 2.6 million viewers. Compare that to the season 1 finale, which drew a 0.32 rating and 4.2 million viewers in January 2025.
It should be noted that the above does not include streaming viewership on Peacock. Final decisions on the fate of “Brilliant Minds” will be made closer to NBC in May.
NBC currently has five drama pilots in contention for the 2026-2027 season, including a reboot of “The Rockford Files.”
Season 29 of “The Voice” is called “The Battle of Champions,” named for the fact that the coaching panel is made up entirely of “Voice” winners. The series is produced by MGM Television, Warner Horizon Unscripted Television and ITV Studios The Voice USA, Inc. The series was created by John de Mol, who serves as executive producer along with Mark Burnett, Audrey Morrissey, Amanda Zucker, Kyra Thompson, Adam H. Sher and Barry Poznick.
