Brenda Hedeen joins Canopy Mortgage as CFO

Former Open a mortgage director Brenda Hedeen has been hired by the Utah-based company Canopy mortgage as new financial director.

“I was thrilled when they contacted me because I’ve been watching this group for years… they have it all: technological, innovative, cost-effective, great culture, truly transparent pricing, committed leadership and an excellent retail model. I am excited to be part of a leadership group that I can be very proud of!” she wrote in a LinkedIn post this week.

Hedeen was CFO of Open Mortgage from May 2022 to October 2024. She also held CFO positions On Q Financial And Mann Mortgage.

Open Mortgage closed its distributed retail channel in August and laid off more than 20 employees. The company is now focusing on third-party originations.

Founded in 2018, Canopy has its own technology platform, which made it a HousingWire Tech100 winner in 2023. It has nearly 300 loan officers and has originated about $1.35 billion in mortgages in the past 12 months, according to Modex facts.
