‘Breaking Bad’ creator’s new show ‘Pluribus’ was emphatically ‘made by humans,’ not AI

If you watched the new Apple TV show “Pluribus” all the way to the end, you might have noted an unusual disclaimer in the credits: “This show was made by people.”
That brief message — placed just below the note that “zookeepers were on set to ensure animal safety” — could potentially provide a model for other filmmakers who want to emphasize that their work was created without the use of generative AI.
And in case the disclaimer wasn’t clear enough, creator Vince Gilligan (best known for “Better Call Saul”) was even more emphatic in a varied main story about the showstating bluntly, “I hate AI.”
He went on to describe the technology as “the most expensive and energy-intensive plagiarism machine in the world” and likened AI-generated content to “a cow chewing its cud – endlessly regurgitated nonsense.”
“Thanks, Silicon Valley!” he added with a laugh. “Again, you ruined the world.”
“Pluribus” marks the former “X-Files” writer’s return to science fiction, reuniting him with his “Better Call Saul” co-star Rhea Seehorn, who plays a novelist confronted by an alien invasion.
