Bobby Bones discusses ‘minor meltdown’ after Tom Bergeron’s DWTS comments

Bobby Bones reflects on his back and forth with Tom Bergeronwhich led to him deciding to return his coveted one Dancing with the stars trophy.

“I had a little meltdown about a week and a half ago because [of] Tom Bergeron, who I love [and] still love,” Bones, 45, said on the Saturday, Nov. 22, episode of his “Bobbycast” podcast. “I was surprised by his reaction when asked who one of the most surprising eliminations is. They didn’t even ask him about me.”

Bergeron, 70, recently told Parade that he was shocked to see Bones win season 27 despite never being at the top of the list DWTS ranking.

“I am fully aware of my entire situation,” Bones said Saturday. “It hurt my feelings so much. I have a job where I give opinions all the time. Every time I stir up controversy, which I sometimes do, … I’m fine because I signed up for this.”

Bobby Bones is still not sure how he won season 27 of Dancing With the Stars, but maybe he “cheated.” Bones — who took home the mirrorball trophy with professional partner Sharna Burgess in 2018 — reflected on his “weird” experience in the ballroom during the Monday, September 15 episode of Jason Tartick’s “Trading […]

According to Bones, he was hurt by Bergeron’s comments because of their previous interactions DWTS.

‘That was someone [who] was so helpful to me on the show because he knew I was going through a hard time,” the radio host said. “I still love Tom, but that hurt my feelings.”

As a result of the drama, Bones publicly revealed that he planned to return his mirrorball trophy to ABC.

“I started to feel like I was really bad at dancing, which I was, [but] I must be okay then,” Bones said, noting that he regrets returning the trophy. “Someone contacted me through the network and they said they would give it back. It’s what I want.”

Meanwhile, Bones still has to decide whether to accept the returned mirror ball.

“It’s not just about Tom, [but] sometimes it’s the association. I look at that and that’s the only thing I ever did where I purposefully just did my best, worked hard, tried to make the people around me better,” he recalled. “I would help other participants. [during] their camera time. … I did everything I could to help, and when people said, ‘We think you’re less than,’ that was my association with the trophy.”

Bones continued, “There are some things that are true [I understand] people don’t like me because I say this or feel this way, that’s what I signed up for. This is the only one where I was the underdog who won, and that was held against me. That association has raised it a bit.”

Bones further revealed that he never “had any intention of continuing” DWTS in the first place, but was approached with the opportunity as a way to promote his role on ABC’s American Idol.

Tom Bergeron may not miss his role as cohost of Dancing With the Stars, but there’s one thing from the ABC series he wishes he could still have in his life. “The salary,” Bergeron hilariously revealed in a recent interview with E! “I remember saying, ‘I’ve never danced before, that sounds fun, but I don’t plan on doing it for four weeks,’” he said. “I don’t do anything without going as fast as I can. There was a time… [when] I was so behind that I rented a studio myself, put on the phone and watched the training and tried to do better.

Bones emphasized that he had “never been as committed to anything” as he was DWTS – until he married his wife, Caitlin Parkerin 2021.

“I was so committed,” he said. “I was proud of myself, [and] I wasn’t as bad as I thought I was. Besides, I’m not well.”
