Bill is expanding affordable homes on unused religious, university country

“Too many families are priced from their community because of the towering costs of housing,” said Warner. “If we want to make homes more affordable, we must become creative and take advantage of opportunities that already exist. The Yigby Act is about breaking down barriers and giving religious communities and colleges the support they need to make their country work to create safe, affordable houses.”
The account would:
- Offer technical assistance on faith -based organizations and higher education institutions that are interested in developing affordable rental properties.
- Offer technical assistance to local authorities when streamlining the increase and reducing barriers.
- Create $ 50 million annually in subsidies for communities that take out policy rules that remove barriers for the development of homes on such property.
Legislation has received support from groups, including the United Church of Christ” Lutheran services in America” Leadingage” Real ground homes partners” Virginia Housing Alliance and the Local initiatives support the company.
The Yigby proposal is part of a broader pressure to tackle the rising housing costs.
Warner has sponsored measures or partly sponsored measures such as the Neighborhood Homes Investment Act, the Affordable Housing Credit Improvement Act and the deposit to Equity Act.
In July, the Senate Banking Committee advanced a dual housing package that included the Reside Act legislation Warner Co-author from Senator Jim Banks (R-Ond.) To create a pilot program for converting empty buildings such as hotels, warehouses and warehouses and comic markets into affordable houses.
That package is waiting for consideration by the full Senate.
