‘Bedbug-safe’ becomes a bookable hotel feature as Valpas certification goes live on Select Green | News

Valpas and Select Green Hotels are bringing bedbug-safe certification to the booking experience for the first time. Travelers using the sustainable hotel platform can now see which hotels have Valpas certification, making “bedbug safe” a visible, verifiable attribute before making a reservation.

“Bed bug safety belongs where every other hotel standard already lives: in the booking process, visible to the traveler before he or she makes a decision,” says Martim Gois, co-founder and CEO of Valpas. “Select Green Hotels shares our belief that trust should be built before, not after, arrival. This is what it looks like when a new hotel category becomes a reality and bookable.”

Select Green Hotels manages more than 100 carefully selected sustainable and well-designed hotels in Europe and Africa. Members adhere to strict standards including sustainable waste management, use of renewable energy, environmental conservation and support of the local community. Until now, these sustainability references have focused on energy, water and waste. By making Valpas certification visible, Select Green Hotels adds a dimension long missing from sustainable hospitality: non-toxic, pesticide-free rooms that extend their engagement from what surrounds the hotel to what happens inside.

According to Isabelle Winter, founder of the hotel booking portal, “by combining Select Green Hotel’s sustainability curation with Valpas’ verified safety standard, we are creating a new category of hospitality: conscious travel backed by evidence. Hotels that meet both criteria will stand out in an increasingly competitive landscape, where trust becomes the ultimate currency.”

Valpas certification is a globally recognized bed bug safety standard for hotels, recognized by the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC) and the World Sustainable Hospitality Alliance (WSHA). It is made possible by proprietary in-room technology that intercepts bed bugs that travelers unknowingly carry, keeping the rooms permanently safe and pesticide-free. When each room is equipped and digitally verified, the hotel earns Valpas certification, a continuous, verifiable proof of security that now extends to the platforms where travelers search and book. The integration with Select Green Hotels marks the first time this standard will be directly visible in a booking process, allowing travelers and travel buyers to identify bedbug-safe hotels before booking.
