‘Bad Monkey’ renewed for season 2 on Apple TV+

“Bad Monkey” has been renewed for season 2 on Apple TV+, Variety has learned.

The series originally debuted on Apple’s streaming service in August, with the season finale airing in October. The first season was based on the novel of the same name by Carl Hiaasen. There is a follow-up novel to “Bad Monkey” titled “Razor Girl,” but according to a person with knowledge of the production, Season 2 will not be based on that book. Bill Lawrence developed “Bad Monkey” for television starring Vince Vaughn.

“I hope people know that Carl Hiaasen is an idol of mine and an inspiration to me as a writer,” Lawrence said. “It’s very exciting to continue telling his story with Vince Vaughn and this amazing cast, at least the characters who are still alive. According to the official logline, the series “tells the story of Andrew Yancy (Vaughn), who has been turned away by the Miami Police Department and is now a health inspector in the Keys. But after he stumbles upon a case that starts with a human arm fished up by tourists, he realizes that if he can prove murder, he’ll get back in. All he has to do is get past a slew of Florida eccentrics and one bad monkey.

In addition to Vaughn, Season 1 of “Bad Monkey” also starred L. Lawrence serves as showrunner and executive producer for “Bad Monkey” through Doozer Productions, in addition to creating the series. In addition to starring, Vaughn is also an executive producer. “Bad Monkey” is the third show Lawrence has done with Apple TV+. He previously co-created the hit comedy “Ted Lasso” and currently has “Shrinking,” which just aired its second season and has already been renewed for a third.
