Aubrey Plaza and Amy Poehler tease Netflix hit

“Saturday Night Live” has taken over “The Hunting Wives” phenomenon – and given the Netflix hit a second season.
In a recorded piece, host Amy Poehler and guest Aubrey Plaza lambasted the streaming sensation, as well as the culture’s response to it. (As Poehler fondled Chloe Fineman, the narrator told us that People magazine said “The Hunting Wives” was “a kind of ‘Call Me By Your Name’ for women shopping at Bass Pro Shop.”) What “SNL” described as “the straight but lesbian horny Republican murder drama” begins its hypothetical second season with Poehler (who plays Malin Akerman) drops her top and says, “Look what the cat dragged.” in.”
“SNL” treated “The Hunting Wives” with love, but with a degree of control: the narrator notes the “wigs doing their best” as Poehler’s hairpiece moves back and forth during a love scene with Fineman. A scene in which Fineman and Poehler, among others, pull guns on each other feels sharply drawn.
Plaza, Poehler’s co-star on “Parks and Recreation,” joined the sketch as a newcomer joining the hunting ladies, who moved in from California. Although the huntswomen flirt excessively with her, true to their custom, once they learn that she identifies as a lesbian, they distance themselves from each other, in the sketch’s final, titillating joke.
“The Hunting Wives” will indeed return for a second season, according to a Netflix announcement in September.
In a statement about the renewal, creator Rebecca Cutter said, “I’m so excited to be writing these amazing characters again, and I can’t wait to take audiences on another sexy, crazy, crazy ride through Maple Brook.”
