Ariana Grande is calling on fans to stop ‘dangerous’ body-shaming comments

In the emotional videoGrande discussed what it was like growing up in the spotlight and becoming the subject of public scrutiny at a young age. “I’ve been doing this a little bit in public and have been kind of like a monster in a petri dish since I was 16 or 17, so I’ve heard it all,” she said. “I’ve heard every version of it – of what’s wrong with me. And then you fix it, and then it’s wrong for different reasons. But that’s it, even the simplest thing – your appearance, you know?”
The Grammy winner explained that critical comments are almost impossible for young people – famous or not – to ignore. “It’s hard to protect yourself from that noise,” she said, noting that the pressure is felt universally.
The pop star explained, “I think it’s something that’s uncomfortable no matter what scale you experience it, even if you go to Thanksgiving dinner and someone’s grandma says, ‘Oh my God, you look skinnier! What happened?’ or ‘You look heavier! What happened? ”
“I think there is a comfort in today’s society that we shouldn’t have at all – commenting on appearance, the appearance of others, what they think is going on behind the scenes, health or how they present themselves,” she continued.
