Andra Day in support of the No Kid Hungry fundraiser in Los Angeles

On today’s episode of the “Daily Variety” podcast, actor and singer Andra Day joins us to talk about her involvement with the Night Out for No Kid Hungry fundraiser taking place on April 11 at Rolling Greens in downtown Los Angeles. It promises to offer unique collaborations with top culinary stars such as Shirley Chung, Ludo Lefebvre, Michael Mina, Brooke Williamson and Alexander Hong.

Day also reports that she will soon have new music. “I haven’t decided yet if it will be a series of EPs or a full album,” she says.

Day quickly said yes to performing at the No Kid Hungry Dinner, given the urgency of the issue and the struggles many families face with food insecurity. The Trump administration’s massive cuts to social safety net programs have only made the efforts of No Kid Hungry and its parent organization, Share Out Strength, even more important.

“Ensuring that children have food and that they can support themselves and their families now is of the utmost importance,” Days said. “I know it will be a wonderful event, but I think everyone at the event, including the organizers, is most excited about the outcome. I have just become a new fan of this organization since I signed up to do this performance. I have learned a lot more about them. And I love that they are putting on events like this and making sure kids are fed. It is a national effort and a national organization. I love that they are working in all areas of culture, society and government to help people understand how important it is making sure children have access to food.”

As for her musical plans, Day says she’s “finally getting into the studio with producers who I’ve been friends with for a while and we’ve been talking about working together for a while.” She also just completed lens work on Season 3 of Disney+’s “Percy Jackson and the Olympians.”

“I’m so excited for people to see that because I’m actually a fan of the show even before I was cast to play a character on the show. I’m so excited about that,” says Day.
