Amazon to develop ‘Joseph of Egypt’ Biblical series

Amazon MGM Studios builds on his collaboration with the ‘The Chosen’ -Maker Dallas Jenkins with a series aimed at the Biblical Figure Joseph and his time in Egypt.
Jenkins is affiliated with Executive Produce the Series, entitled ‘Joseph of Egypt’, under his 5 & 2 Studios Banner. Craig Wright will serve as a writer and executive producer of the project, which is currently under development.
The official logline for the show states: “Betrayed by jealous brothers, Tart Joseph all the expectations and he rises to incredible power in Egypt, second to Pharaoh. But when his past catches up with him, he is confronted with the ultimate test.”
In the book Genesis, Joseph is the son of Jacob and Rachel who is sold in slavery by his brothers. But his ability to successfully interpret the dreams of Pharaoh, which saves Egypt from a terrible famine, deserves favor and position. His story has been told on the screen several times, while the story also serves as a basis for the iconic musical “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.”
The show falls under the versatile deal of Jenkins’ and 5 & 2 with Amazon MGM Studios, which was announced in February, along with Amazon’s acquisition of exclusive American streaming rights and a theatrical release of new episodes of “The Cheosen”. In an interview with Variety In September 2024, Jenkins revealed plans for a Joseph series for the first time, as well as a more seasonal series about the story of Moses.
This also marks the latest Biblical Amazon series has been involved lately. Together with “The Chosen” and now “Joseph van Egypt”, Amazon Prime Video is currently being broadcast the drama series “House of David”. That show tells the story of King David and premiered in February, making a renewal of the second season not long after. “House of David” is produced by the Wonder Project, which Jenkins serves as a special adviser.
Wright is no stranger to religious dramas, because he previously created the successful series of ‘Greenleaf’, set in a Megchurch Megphis. Wright also created the show “Tyrant” at FX and created the ABC drama “Dirty Sexy Money”. His other writing credits are shows such as “Lost” and “Six Feet Under” and the movie “Mr. Peabody & Sherman.”
5 & 2 Studios is being returned by UTA. Wright is being reputed by WME and Johnson Shapiro Slewett & Kole.
