‘Always intended as a stepping’

After seven seasons, Ego Nwodim has left her decision to leave “Saturday Night Live”, pronounced and said that the sketch show “was always meant as a springboard.”

Speaking during a panel at the Fast Company Innovation Festival on Wednesday (through people), Nwodim said she has big plans for her career after “SNL”.

“There is so much that I want to do and ‘SNL’ is always meant as a springboard,” said Nwodim. “There are so many ideas that I need to have time to create. I look forward to doing that. So direct, write more in a different capacity.”

The comedian added that she is “very excited” for her next chapter and “It’s an exciting thing.”

Nwodim announced her departure last week, after the cast of the 51 “SNL” season was considered solid after a huge shake-up that saw the outputs of Heidi Gardner, Devon Walker, Michael Longfellow and Emil Wakim. Sketch Group Please Don’t Destroy was also split when Ben Marshall was promoted to the main cast, Martin Herlihy moved to writing Staf and John Higgins left the show. Variety reported that the circumstances before Nwodim have changed after the last announcements had been made, so that she chose to pursue other opportunities.

“The most difficult part of a great party is to know when they should say goodnight,” Nwodim wrote on Instagram when she announced the news. “But after seven unforgettable seasons, I decided to leave SNL. I am very grateful to Lorne for the chance, for my castmats, the writers and the crew for their sparkle, support and friendship. Week after week on that stage taught me more than I could ever have imagined, and I will wear those memories (and lisses).”
