Airbnb just rolled out a new social network for travelers

In its latest effort to reshape the way people experience travel, Airbnb has unveiled a new social network designed specifically for travelers. The updateannounced in October 2025, is part of a broader rollout that includes 65 new features aimed at making the platform more interactive, personal and community-driven.

At the heart of this release is Airbnb’s new social layer: a feature that allows travelers to connect with each other before, during and after their trip. Through the platform’s redesigned Experiences section, users can now see who else is attending the same activity, view guest profiles, and even message fellow participants directly from the app. After completing an experience, Airbnb automatically adds these travelers to a new “Connections” tab, allowing guests to stay in touch and build networks beyond a single trip.

The social functionality is completely optional, with privacy settings allowing users to control what they share. Guests can decide whether they want to make their profile visible, accept messages, or remain completely private. This move marks Airbnb’s strategic shift from merely a booking platform to a community-oriented ecosystem that combines travel, lifestyle and social networking.

“We have always believed that travel is about connection,” Airbnb said in the announcement. “Now we’re making it easier for guests to meet people, share experiences and build relationships that last long after their stay.”

While the social networking feature has attracted the most attention, Airbnb’s update also introduces several improvements across the platform. These include improved search and mapping tools, new AI-powered customer support in multiple languages, expanded payment flexibility with Reserve Now, Pay Later, and upgraded host tools such as dynamic cancellation options and refined pricing insights.

Together, these changes reflect Airbnb’s continued efforts to move beyond booking accommodation and toward creating an all-encompassing travel experience. By integrating social discovery directly into its platform, Airbnb is positioning itself not only as a marketplace for places to stay, but also as a digital meeting place for travelers around the world.
