A&E debuts Jan. 27 for Argentinian-Brazilian crime series ‘Sumergidos’
Eze Olzanski’s Buenos Aires-based EO Media has confirmed A&E Latin America’s January 27 debut for Argentinian-Brazilian series ‘Sumergidos’ as it descends on Content Americas.
This follows a series of several new film deals that the Mip Cancun-based production and distribution company has signed with Paramount, NBC Universal, Globo and MVS, among others. It also signed free TV deals in Colombia, Ecuador, Bolivia, Mexico, Brazil and Uruguay, as well as on-board deals for several films scheduled at the Mexico event.
“Sumergidos” is one of the latest additions to A&E’s catalog of crime drama series, joining titles led by “Narcos,” “Narcos: Mexico,” “El Chapo,” “Rosario Tijeras,” “El Patrón del Mal” and “Sobreviviendo a Escobar: aka JJ.”
“When we sold ‘Narcos,’ ‘Narcos: Mexico’ and ‘El Chapo’ to A&E, not many people believed they could be on both a pay-TV network and Netflix at the same time. We proved them wrong because they were very successful,” Olzanski said Variety.
This is the first pan-Latin American pay-TV premiere for the thriller. “Sumergidos” made its local debut on Paramount Channel in Brazil and on Argentina’s TV Publica in 2022.
Helmed by Argentinian directors Claudio Rosa and Pablo Brasa, along with Brazilian filmmaker Marcia Paraíso, the thirteen-episode crime thriller is set against the backdrops of Florianópolis and Córdoba. The story explores the intersection of surfing, drug dealing and politics. The scripts were written by Claudio Rosa, Glauco Broering and Pablo Brusa.
The series, co-produced by Jaque Content, Prisma Films and Bonaparte from Córdoba, Story Lab from Buenos Aires and Plural Filmes from Brazil, features more than 60 actors and actresses from both countries led by Argentina’s Mariano Bertolini, Liz Solari, Jorge Marrale, Juan Gil Navarro and Brazilian actors Cassio Nascimento, Zé Carlos Machado, Ana Cecilia Costa, Guilherme Weber, among others.
The production also features emerging talent, including young Lucas Heymanns, who delivers a standout performance as Gordo, a drug trafficker and one of the series’ breakout revelations. Professional surfer José Francisco Filho, better known as Fininho, participated as a stunt double for the main character.
