Advice for British travelers in Oman as repatriation flights begin | News

British travelers are currently inside Oman People are urged to remain calm and follow official guidance closely as arrangements are made to help people return to Britain. Julia Lo Bue-Said OBE, CEO of Advantage Travel Partnershipsaid the situation is understandably causing fear among those affected, but stressed that following the correct procedures will be essential to ensure a safe and orderly return home.

Travelers hoping to secure a seat on a government-backed repatriation flight are advised to register with Britain Office for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development (FCDO) as soon as possible and wait for immediate confirmation before going to the airport. Officials have warned that arriving without an assigned seat does not guarantee a place on the flight and could increase airport congestion in an already sensitive situation. The first repatriation service will prioritize the most vulnerable passengers, including elderly travelers, people in need of medical attention and families with young children.

In addition to the government-backed flight, British Airways is also expected to operate a special service from Muscat to London for its customers on Thursday. Travelers who have a booking with the airline are encouraged to contact British Airways directly to explore this option.

Passengers are also advised to keep their phones fully charged, monitor official updates and ensure their passports and essential documents are readily available. Those who booked through travel agents should contact them for assistance as agents work closely with airline partners to arrange rebookings, alternative routes or later departures where commercial flights remain available.

Lo Bue-Said emphasized that personal safety must remain the top priority. Travelers are encouraged to stay in safe accommodation unless otherwise advised, continue to check updated FCDO guidance and rely only on verified information from government and aviation communications. She added that the travel industry is working around the clock to support affected passengers, but following official instructions will be crucial to ensure the smoothest journey back to Britain.
